General Info

Tucked into the busy streets of Melbourne’s CBD, Mr Hoppers at 303 Exhibition St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia brings a warm slice of Sri Lankan food culture to the city. From the moment you step inside, the place feels relaxed and welcoming, the kind of restaurant where people settle in for a casual lunch or linger over coffee and dessert. The location is easy to reach, and the nearby paid parking lot makes visiting convenient even during busy hours in the city.

What immediately stands out at Mr Hoppers is how focused the menu is on traditional Sri Lankan flavors. The restaurant revolves around its signature dish: hoppers. These bowl-shaped rice flour pancakes arrive crisp at the edges and soft in the center, making them perfect for soaking up rich curries. The Hoppers with Fish Curry is easily one of the most memorable plates here. The curry is fragrant, slightly spicy, and deeply comforting-each bite with the hopper creates a balance of texture and flavor that feels both hearty and authentic.

Another highlight from the menu is the Coconut Roti & Fish Curry, which brings together soft, lightly toasted roti infused with coconut and a bold, savory curry. The roti itself has a subtle sweetness that pairs beautifully with the spices of the fish. For diners looking for something filling yet aromatic, the Vegetable Biryani is a great choice. The rice is layered with vegetables and spices, delivering a dish that’s vibrant, satisfying, and perfect for lunch.

One dish that regularly earns strong reviews from visitors is the Chicken Kothu Parotta. Watching it being prepared is part of the experience. The chopped parotta bread, tender chicken, vegetables, and spices come together in a sizzling mix that’s both flavorful and comforting. It’s a popular pick among regular diners who want something rich and full of texture. If you’re dining with friends, ordering a Coconut Roti Portion to share alongside other dishes makes the meal feel complete.

The dining experience at Mr Hoppers is straightforward and enjoyable. Guests can relax in the dine-in space, grab a cup of coffee after a meal, or stop by for a quick lunch in the middle of a busy Melbourne day. Dessert options provide a sweet finish, especially after the bold spices of Sri Lankan cooking.

Overall, Mr Hoppers feels like a small but memorable spot on Melbourne’s food map. The combination of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, a thoughtfully curated menu, and a convenient city location gives diners a place worth returning to. Whether someone is discovering Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time or already familiar with the flavors, the experience here feels genuine, comforting, and full of character.

“ A pretty enjoyable meal. The highlight for me was definitely the hopper, perfectly crisp edges with a soft, fluffy center. Simple but so satisfying! I was surprised by the vegetarian kottu, which I actually enjoyed more than the chicken and cheese kottu. The flavors were well-balanced and hearty without being too heavy. ”

“ Authentic Sri Lankan Flavors at Mr. Hoppers – A Must-Try in Melbourne! I recently ordered takeaway from Mr. Hoppers to my Hotel in Melbourne two times a day Dinner and Lunch and I can confidently say this is a must-try spot for Sri Lankan food lovers. Even as takeaway, the food was fresh, flavorful, and transported me straight back to Sri Lanka. The pork fried rice was rich and aromatic, while the deviled pork had the perfect level of spice—just as it should be. The pork curry and roast paan were incredibly delicious and brought back nostalgic childhood memories. The portions were generous, making it great value for money. Overall, the food was absolutely fantastic, and the authenticity truly stood out. Keep up the great work, guys! I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Melbourne for another taste of Sri Lanka. ”

“ This is our first time having Sri Lankan food and we were very grateful to be able to dine at Mr Hoppers located in Melbourne CBD! This place serves a large range of curries, Kottu and different style hoppers! The Milk Hopper was a standout as it was quite damp in the centre but it was a perfect combination with the crisp shell. The fish curry was delicious, fish itself was soft and melted with each bite while the curry was like none others we’ve ever had! The staff here are efficient and friendly and it had a very pleasant atmosphere to dine in! ”

“ A very nice Sri Lankan restaurant. We went for lunch and it wasn't too busy. We tried a few types of kottu, some hoppers, and the deviled chicken. Everything was full of flavor and well-balanced. The chili oil that came with the deviled chicken was especially spicy and taste really good. Just a heads-up, if you ask for your food spicy, they take it seriously. Service was friendly and the waitress was great. Would definitely go back. ”

“ Delicious Sri Lankan food!! Unfortunately when we visited they were out of a couple of menu items, like the hoppers and all lamb dishes. However, we loved the chicken kottu, egg fried rice, chicken biryani and fish curry that we ordered. Options for mild or spicy dishes. Servings were good value for money and came out very quickly. All dishes were very flavoursome and came with a side of salad leaves. The fish was firm and paired well with the coconut roti. There was Sri Lankan music playing on the TV which added to the atmosphere. ”
